Hamilton Girls’ High School warmly welcomes international students to join their school. The student roll is about 1700 girls, and a feature of the school is the diversity of ethnicities and the promotion and celebration of these cultures. There are about 15 – 20 international fee-paying students and an attached hostel accommodating around 130 boarders.
Located on the banks of the Waikato River, Hamilton City is the heart of the Waikato region, and is New Zealand’s fourth largest city. The region is culturally and geographically diverse and is a safe, family focused community where international students have amazing educational and sporting opportunities.
Hamilton Girls’ High School has a wide range of modern facilities including well-equipped classrooms, music and drama suites, computer, technology, design, art and photography suites, science laboratories, a well-equipped library, and excellent sports facilities.
We offer a wide range of subjects in line with the New Zealand Curriculum and international students often chose subjects that are not available to them at home. These include Advanced PE – Outdoors, Te Reo Maori, Drama, Visual Arts, Digital Technology, Personal Training and Early Childhood Education.
Coming to a new school can be quite daunting. Hamilton Girls’ High have an extensive network set up to provide the help and support that is needed for students and parents. There is no English language entry requirements for students from Europe.
Hamilton Girls’ High School homestay accommodation is arranged with warm, welcoming and supportive New Zealand families living close to the school, who offer a safe and supportive environment while you settle in to the New Zealand way of life. Each family undergoes assessment for suitability and is vetted by New Zealand Police prior to placement.
Hostel accommodation is available and is subject to an assessment and selection process prior to any students being accepted to reside here.
Our experienced staff have many years of experience taking care of International Students and provide a high level of care for students at school and in their homestay accommodation.
At Hamilton Girls’ High School we offer an International Student Tutor Group to help students new to New Zealand transition to a New Zealand High School culture.
Students are encouraged to embrace all activities, expand their experiences and further develop new passions. We offer a wide variety of extra curricular programmes and sports activities including hockey, cycling, equestrian, talent quest and stage challenge.
