Hutt Valley High School is 15 minutes from vibrant downtown Wellington, New Zealand’s capital city. There is a regular bus and train service to the heart of the city.
The school has park-like grounds, with extensive playing fields, trees, lawns and pleasant gardens. We are a wireless campus with computer suites, three gymnasiums, recording studio, indoor heated pool (adjacent to school), modern Art block, Music suite and Dance and Drama facilities, Science laboratories, Horticultural Unit and Sports Pavilion.

Our International students are encouraged to take a full and active part in school life. There are over 40 sports teams including football, basketball, tennis badminton, futsal and volleyball. Clubs include Robotics, Chess, Cheer Leading, Hip Hop, Civil Defence, Science Explosions, Fashion and Baking. There is a school orchestra, several choirs and many bands. Students can also learn to play an instrument.
Our international students are hosted by local families. Most of our homestay families have had long term connections with the school. The families will either have students currently attending, or who have recently finished at Hutt Valley High School. New Zealand homes are generally large and spacious with outdoor areas. Pets are common.
International students arrive at Hutt Valley High School with various goals. Some students are here to gain academic qualifications to gain entrance to New Zealand or overseas universities. Others are here for the experience of living in a new culture and gaining the confidence and self reliance that goes with this. Students are supported in reaching their goals by our comprehensive International programme and experienced staff.
