Extra-curricular

One reason for WGC’s popularity is that the school’s academic results are amongst the top in NZ. Another reason is the high levels of participation in the range of activities available outside of the classroom – all activities cater for girls, some are in partnership with Wellington College, our brother school. This high level of participation provides numerous opportunities for leadership, for community service, for personal development, and ensures a positive, up-beat and “can do” attitude throughout the school.

Sport is a big part of life at WGC with 70% of students involved in football, handball, hockey, rowing, sailing, tennis, volleyball, futsal… and many more. Additionally numerous cultural and club opportunities are offered – including three choirs, a concert band, drama, two orchestras , Kapa Haka and more.

There are opportunities to join a range of school-organised activities in and out of Wellington, including outdoor education trips, cultural trips and a Wellington outdoor adventure programme with students from around the region while others sit exams during November.

Outdoor Opportunities
  • Wellington Girls’ College makes sure our non-NCEA girls have opportunities to enjoy New Zealand’s outdoors.
  • Depending on the time of year, we offer a trip to the beautiful Marlborough Sounds to learn to kayak and mountainbike and to enjoy hiking and wilderness camping.
  • There is a Year 13 ski trip in September to Mt Ruapehu and trips to Castlepoint and Taupo at other times of the year!
Pastoral Support

WGC enrols 60-70 students from overseas each year including 10-15 girls from Europe. We have five experienced International staff who oversee academic and English language progammes and provide a high level of care for students at school and in homestay.
