Hamilton is a vibrant and rapidly growing city just 130km south of Auckland city.

Hamilton is the provincial centre of the Waikato region, a prosperous and very fertile dairy farming area.

Hamilton is a major centre for agricultural research and the home of the University of Waikato. It is a growing, vibrant, modern, multi-cultural city with a population of 130,000. It also has a strong light industry base and a reputation as a very good education centre.

Useful information

The Waikato River flows through Hamilton city. Many of New Zealand’s very successful rowing teams regularly practise on this river and the city will host the World Rowing Championships in the next two years. Some NZ rowing teams have gone on to take Olympic medals and world Championship titles.

The Waikato is also a major horse breeding area. Many of Australasia’s champion stallions have been born and trained in this region.
