ETC (English Teaching College)

ETC offers a variety of academic English programmes to suit high school and tertiary students.

With 21 years’ experience and 2 campuses (Palmerston North and Wellington), ETC offers an excellent variety of academic English programmes to suit high school and tertiary students. There are also conversational and general English courses for short-term visitors and job seekers. Two campuses provide a friendly welcoming atmosphere with students from many cultures.

Student Facilities

Each campus has a spacious lounge, kitchen, study area and free access to the Internet. Our computers have special software and are compatible with most international languages. Students can send e-mails to their family and friends in their own language.

Academic English Programmes

IELTS, TOEIC & OET preparation courses are available for students intending to go to university or other tertiary institutes.

English for Nurses and other Health Professionals

Study full-time for either 3 or 6 months for the Occupational English Test (OET). This is an alternative English test accepted by the NZ Nursing Council.

General English Programmes: Bridging Course

ETC offers English study for students intending to go to local secondary schools, polytechnics and university. It is an excellent opportunity to build up fundamental English skills and confidence before going to higher education.

Study Tours

We develop special interest programmes and activities for groups, suitable for those who want to study conversational English and enjoy cultural and outdoor activities. We will customise your study tour in accordance with your interests.

Farmstay Plus English

After you have studied English at ETC, we can arrange farmstays for students to experience rural farm life in New Zealand.

Academic Support and Counselling
  • Each campus has full or part-time courses in Beginners, Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced English
  • Small classes with professionally trained ESOL teachers who provide individual academic support
  • Students receive excellent passes in the IELTS and OET exams and high scores in TOEIC
  • All courses are approved by the New Zealand Government and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA)
  • 90% of the students are adults. However ETC will accept younger students from the age of 14
  • Courses start every Monday
Accommodation and Pastoral Support

ETC provides free airport pick up from either Wellington or Palmerston North. ETC also arranges homestay or hostel-type accommodation. Homestay students have their own room and three meals per day provided by an English-speaking host family.

ETC provides warm and friendly support to the students and ensures that they are safe and well cared for at all times. ETC also assists students to join sports clubs and cultural activities, and can arrange weekend bus trips.

International Student Fees 2014

Teaching Enrolment fees: NZ$150

Full time study: NZ$380 per week
Part-time study: NZ$260 per week
Medical English: NZ$150 extra per week
