UCOL (Universal College of Learning)

UCOL is a large New Zealand Government funded Institute of Technology located in the beautiful heartland of New Zealand.

UCOL’s history originated in 1906 as the Palmerston North Technical Institute and has grown into a large regional institute of technology offering a wide range of post-graduate and undergraduate degrees, and diplomas.

UCOL is proud of its academic standing in the New Zealand tertiary education sector. Alumni of UCOL’s degree and diploma programmes have achieved significant success in commerce and the professional environment, both in New Zealand and offshore. Many alumni have undertaken further educational study, both in New Zealand and in countries such as the United States and UK, achieving high honours at the masters and doctoral level.

UCOL uses the latest technology and equipment in, often custom-designed, top class facilities for example, the highly sophisticated Nursing Simulation Lab, the industry standard photographic studios and the specialised commercial exercise facility.

UCOL prides itself on providing relevant and well-respected qualifications, outstanding student support and a safe and friendly learning environment for its students.

Helpful information

Location

UCOL has three campuses all located in the centre of their cities; Palmerston North (population 76,000); Wanganui (population 43,000); Masterton (population 23,000). All of these cities are relatively small by world standards, adding to the friendly environment which our International Students enjoy so much. No matter which UCOL campus is your base, it is an easy journey to mountains and ski fields, lakes, rivers and beaches or to other cities such as Wellington our capital city, or to Taupo and Rotorua, both famous tourist destinations.

Academic Programmes

All UCOL programmes are government approved and accredited by our New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). This means that there is a high degree of quality assurance and benchmarking of standards both within New Zealand and in an international context. UCOL is also a signatory to the New Zealand Qualifications Authority Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students. UCOL offers a post-secondary vocation-based institute of technology type of education. Theoretical learning is balanced by applied in-class projects and assignments, and workplace-based training.
